The polar opposite of Postpartum, Marloe Escapes the Child-Eating Chair is meant to be viewed with a smile. I worked on and completed the two paintings simultaneously, side by side on my easel.
It's the same mother and child, but a year later. In this work the composition is more grounded with horizontal lines to accentuate the relaxed play of the scene, centered with the triangle of the tree, the shape of which is repeated by the angle of the mother and the child's arm. The physical contact is limited to a single finger, yet the emotional connect between mother and child in this playful moment is complete, and happy.
