This work was my last in a series of Christmas-themed paintings. I've always loved that time of year, when the lights go up and the holiday music can be heard everywhere. The Christmas series was a guilty pleasure; using the broader themes of my ongoing Mood Lights series to give myself an excuse to indulge in a bit of holiday fun. I wondered if any of them would actually sell, but I've been pleasantly surprised by how popular they are. Sugarplum is one of only three that I have left.
I could describe this scene and what it makes me feel, but I so enjoy the different interpretations of this painting that people share with me. I'd hate to offer my own and ruin the fun. I will share that Sugarplum is one of my favorite, most apt titles that I've ever come up with. It's certainly in some part because I listened to Tchaikovsky the whole time that I was working on it, but it means so much more.
