Emily at City Grill was selected by curators Kiki Kim and David Willson for the PoetsArtists' Exhibition Painting the Figure Now 2023 at the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art. More recently it was accepted to the 2024 Allied Artists of America Associate Online Exhibition, as well as being a FAV15 selection in the December 2023 and February 2024 BoldBrush Painting Contests.
This work, and it being accepted to Painting the Figure Now 2023, holds a special place for me. I painted it specifically for that show. The reference that I painted it from was taken the year before during my first trip to Wausau for the opening of the first exhibit that I was accepted to there. It was such a special moment - my first museum show and a landmark achievement in my career, shared with me by one of my closest friends and muses. Emily accompanied me back to Wausau for the opening of the exhibition where we recreated this scene with an old fashioned and she had the rare chance to see her painting in person (I live in New Orleans and she lives in Boston). Not only that, but I just love the fact that in a show featuring artists from all over the globe, one of the paintings is set about three blocks away from the museum in the small Wisconsin town that hosts such world class art.
More recently, Emily at City Grill was accepted to And Now for Something New, Vol. 6, an annual international juried exhibition held by LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans, Louisiana, opening on August 3, 2024, and also to the International Guild of Realism's Fall Salon, opening September 21, 2025.
